Meet the Team

Maggie with Ciara as a yearling at her first show.

Hi my name is Maggie and I am one part of the Sandhills Alpacas Team. I come from a background of no animal experience at all until I bought Gwen who is a black fell pony and my forever friend. After a few years we started keeping the free range hens which lead to alpacas. I am now hooked to these wonderful endearing animals and started our cottage industry producing luxurious yarn and knitted items which are all loving hand produced. Follow our gallery which tells a story with each image.

Paul with Diamond Jubilee (Lily) our first cria.

Hi I’m Paul the hardest worker in the team! I usually get the dirtiest of jobs although I’m certainly not complaining. My experience with animals came from my earlier years of farming where we reared pigs for pork and cattle for beef. I have my Irish draft x Thoroughbred horse and enjoy riding when I have any spare time. I enjoy the welfare side of our alpaca’s from toe clipping, injections, drenches, building alpaca pods, stables, field management ….. the list is endless. In fact Maggie what do you do? I am only joking as the fleece side of things and usually the birthing and looking after the cria tends to be Maggie as nearly all of our cria have been born whilst I have been away.

We are a strong team who have the same values and beliefs and keep the welfare of the alpacas at the forefront of everything we do.

Sophie our daughter helps us halter train all of our youngsters and has a big impact on how friendly they all are. This year Sophie has also started to show our animals in the show ring and is so calm and respectful of our pacas.

Meet Josh and Deisel who is joining us in building the Alpaca and Poultry Pods.  Josh is learning most of the husbandry tasks undertaken on the farm and are proving to be a great asset to the team!

Lastly we must not forget Harry who helps around the farm and comes to some of the events with us.

Ella with our bottle fed cria Sandhills Effy

Hi i’m Ella and im the funniest in the Sandhills Team 🙂 ! Me and Josh have the Coloured Ryelands, but i love being involved with everything alpaca too! I help Maggie with showing the alpacas, as well as showing the sheep with Josh. My favourite thing to do is attend the shows and of course relax in the field with our teddy bears and have lots of cuddles!
